The Havanese Poodle is not a purebred dog, or a special type of poodle. It is a mix between a Havanese and a Poodle. The American Canine Hybrid Club and the Designer Dogs Kennel Club, which recognize and register certain mixed breeds, both refer to the Havanese Poodle as a Poovanese, while the International Designer Canine Registry refers to the mix as a Havapoo. Some owners of the mix call it a Havanoodle, but that name did not stick, and seems on the surface a somewhat insulting moniker to attach to a beautiful little dog.

The Havanese Poodle mix is derived form the Havanese, which is a small, somewhat shaggy, but very attractive toy dog, and the Toy Poodle. Havanese dogs make friendly and playful little pets, and their behavior has been described by some as "clown-like". Among the characteristics of the Havanese breed are almond shaped eyes, an unusually small tongue, and a tendency to sometimes hop like a rabbit when running. They do not shed, and are well matched with the poodle in that respect

The Havanese Poodle also needs to be groomed on almost a daily basis, and an occasion bath is also recommended. Because of its diminutive size, bathing the dog is not usually a problem, even if one lives in an apartment. This is a dog that, while enjoying a daily walk, will usually get the exercise it needs on its own, due to its habit of scampering from place to place. Unlike some small breeds, this mix gets along fairly well with most other dogs and because of its friendliness towards people in general, and the fact it is not much of a barker, makes it only an average watchdog.

Since the Havanese is noted for its intelligence, and the poodle is considered one of the more intelligent dog breeds, the Havanese Poodle is, as one might expect, both intelligent and highly trainable. Like most small breeds and small mixed breeds, the Havanese Poodle enjoys a relatively long life span, on the order of 12 to 15 years.
